Ward Befriender Volunteer (AMHS) (Department of Psychiatry)

We are looking for female Ward Befrienders to provide companionship to patients on Amberley Ward at Department of Psychiatry; to help patients to take part in appropriate social and/or recreational activities. The involvement aims to help our service users to feel less isolated and feel part of an enjoyable social relationship.

The Department of Psychiatry is part of Eastbourne's District General Hospital and has three inpatient wards for adults with mental health problems. Amberley is a ward for women with some shared bays and some individual rooms.

We are looking for female volunteers that can commit to at one of the following shifts for a minimum of 6 months.

  • Monday PM

  • Tuesday PM

  • Thursday PM

As the ward is a busy environment, it is essential that volunteers can take a proactive approach to the role, whilst always being guided by their supervisor and wishes of the patients.

In return we will provide volunteers with ongoing support and training.

To be successful for the role, the following is required:

  • Completed online volunteering application form

  • An informal volunteering interview

  • DBS check

  • X 2 references

  • Completion of core training (including 2.5hr face to face training during the week)

  • Attendance at local ward induction (these are held week days, between 10am-4pm)
