Gardening Volunteer
At Mill View Hospital we care for people with acute mental health problems until they are ready to leave hospital and live in the community.
We provide care and treatment to adults with acute mental health needs to aid recovery and wellbeing. We have 84 beds at Mill View Hospital divided between five wards:
-
Caburn Ward and Regency Ward are single gender wards for adults
-
Meridian Ward is a mixed gender ward for people aged over 65
-
Pavillion Ward is a male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit
-
Brunswick Ward is a dementia care ward
All of these wards admit people over eighteen to sixty five years in general. Patients are admitted to hospital for hospital care and/or treatment and it can either be voluntary or they are detained under the Mental Health Act.
Mill view staff work alongside the patients in the recovery processes. We offer art therapy psychology, Occupational therapy, nursing care, medical care, groups and activities which are well noted for therapeutic engagement with the patients which really aids their recovery.
We're looking for a volunteer to work alongside our Occupational Therapists to help facilitate weekly gardening groups and tend to our raised flower beds. We have a contract for lawn cutting and hedge trimming. However, the we need additional support with the gardens to bring them to their full glory such as potting, growing veg, supporting patients in taking pride in the gardens etc.
We are looking for volunteers that can commit a weekly for a minimum of 6 months.
