Ward Befriender Volunteer (CAMHS) (Chalkhill)

Opportunity image

Chalkhill is a mixed gender inpatient unit where young people are admitted if they require assessment and treatment for acute mental health needs.

We offer assessment and treatment of a wide range of mental health difficulties and needs, as well as support for eating disorders and disordered eating.

Chalkhill is a standalone hospital exclusively for 12-18-year-old young people based in the grounds of the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.

We are looking for Ward Befrienders to provide companionship to patients on the ward and help them to take part in appropriate social and/or recreational activities. The involvement aims to help people to feel less isolated and feel part of an enjoyable social relationship.

Volunteer shifts on this unit are from 5.30pm-7.30pm Monday-Friday and from 10am Saturday and Sunday.

We require volunteers to commit to a shift for a minimum of 6 months.

As the ward is a busy environment, it is essential that volunteers can take a proactive approach to the role, whilst always being guided by their supervisor and wishes of the patients.

To be successful for the role, the following is required:

  • Completed online volunteering application form

  • An informal volunteering interview

  • DBS check

  • X 2 references

  • Completion of core training (including 2.5hr face to face training during the week)
