Holistic Therapies Volunteer (Forget Me Not Unit)

The Forget Me Not Unit is a specialist acute dementia unit which currently has three 10 bedded wards. Patients, who are admitted from across Sussex, are experiencing severe symptoms of their dementia and requiring specialist assessment and treatment. Patients might be admitted to the unit for up to 6 months and during their admission are supported to engage in meaningful activities to promote independence and skills maintenance, prevent boredom and manage their symptoms.

We are looking for a volunteer with experience and qualifications in massage or aromatherapy who can provide 1:1 interventions. There is a huge evidence base for these sensory based interventions for people with dementia and so someone who has some experience in these therapies would be a welcome addition to the unit. Safe use of therapeutic massage and aromatherapy scents are proven to be supportive in helping patients coping with negative symptoms of their dementia.

Days/times: One session a week - flexible on day between 10-12am or 2-4pm
